Although short haircuts like lobs (long bobs) and pixies have been popular lately, we’re starting to see a return to the classic: long hair with plenty of movement and volume. No matter what your personal style, there’s a long cut to match it. Read on to find out what celebs like Kim Kardashian, Angelina Jolie, and Beyoncé see in this always-trendy style.

Why Long Hair?

There are good reasons long hair keeps coming back into style over and over again. Many people find that it makes them feel feminine, carefree, and maybe even a little rebellious. Long hair looks great if it’s a little windblown—and if you color your hair, it doesn’t get much prettier than multifaceted, dimensional color tumbling all the way down your back.

Of course, long hair also gives you lots of choices. You can wear it up, down, or partially up. You can curl it, braid it, or straighten it. Pressed for time? Just throw your hair up in a high ponytail and you’re good to go.

You’ll sometimes hear that long hair is just for the young, but we happen to strongly disagree with that statement. Anyone can rock any style, no matter what their age. If long hair makes you feel great, wear it proudly!

The Right Cut

If you have long hair, you’ve probably had the layers conversation with your stylist. Layers remove bulk so long styles aren’t too heavy. They also add movement and interest. There are different types of layers (like choppy, blunt, or angled), and each one flatters different face shapes and will appeal to different tastes.

Bored with your long hair? Bangs are a great way to add some pizazz without sacrificing the length. You can go with subtle, side-swept bangs that can be pinned or clipped out of the way when desired, or take the plunge and have your stylist cut a thick, dramatic fringe.

What to do if you’re craving long, thick locks but you’re still growing out your bob? Extensions to the rescue! Modern extensions (we use Hairdreams Professional Extensions in the salon) are virtually undetectable from your real hair when applied by a trained stylist. Surprise your friends with a long style for a big event, or try out a style to see if you want to invest the time to grow your hair out all the way.
